Fall Course Improvements
The construction contractor completing the work on 11, 1 and 2 tee was in on Wednesday to finalize the construction plans and start date. The works will begin Monday October 19th which is a week later than expected. Construction will take 7-10 days to complete. 1 green will only be closed while work is being completed around the green, so the green may be open at times thru the week depending on the schedule of the contractor. Hole 11 will be closed for the remainder of the season starting on October 19th. To re-cap the scope of works please read below.
The scope of the work includes:
A new bunker left of 11 green. Adding a bunker to the left side will assist in framing the 11th hole, and provide additional separation between 11 green and 17 tee.
Re-grading approach and front of 11 green. TDI took grade measurements on 11 green and approach. In order to remove surface water, the approach and front part of the green will be lowered. Removing surface water will be extremely beneficial during periods of ice melt and will reduce the threat of winter damage. The link below shows water moving from the edge of the green towards the centre. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2zHpYRVDSQI This is an example of how poor surface drainage on this green can be detrimental to greens during a winter melt and subsequently refreezing as ice.
Green surrounds on #1. The soil on 11 approach consists mostly of rocks. This material will be removed and replaced with topsoil. The topsoil will be generated on site from the large mounds behind the 1st green. These mounds that are found behind many green sites here at Cutten Fields are not the work of Stanley Thompson and are to be removed as part of the long range master plan.
